I think Beth was scratched on the neck by her mother. I can’t believe no one has thought to check her over for scratches. If someone gets that close to a zombie, then later collapses with a fever, you CHECK THEM FOR SCRATCHES OR BITES. You’d think that would be common sense in a zombie apocalypse.
